Sanquhar International Art Festival – Becoming Hannah Höch

Dismissed by her male peers as a “charming amateur”, Hoch has become one of the most influential artists of her day, weaving both the grotesque and the absurd. Holding an ever deeper relevance today, Hoch’s photomontage offers biting insight on sexism, racism, and contemporary politics. Through the use of montage, stop motion, and AI, Becoming Hannah Hoch, seeks to mirror Hannah’s critique on the commodification of women’s bodies and whose hand wields the power.
There will be a screening of the film with a Q & A at the Sanquhar International Art Festival on the 29th of November. In addition to raising new interest in Hannah Hoch, this film intends to serve as a discussion on the uses of AI in media and the impacts both negative and positive it can have.
There will be food and drinks available for purchase at the Nithsdale Hotel on the main street of Sanquhar. Following the film screening, artists will be featured at the Museum of Model Art, MERZ, and No 5 St. Marys. Guests are welcome to wander through and view the exhibitions at their leisure.
These artists featured include: photographer Eri Nakamura, sculptural artists Fiona and David Carruthers, and painter Christine Nobre.
